So today we are discussing the pros and cons of Snapchat. It is a messaging app that has gained popularity among social media users because of its unique features. It automatically deletes a person’s messages after a set-period without making them recoverable.
Pros of Snapchat
- Fun in the moment
Snapchat is fun to use, you get to follow many celebrities and your favourite people. And they will upload snaps of them living their best life. You will feel like if you are with them.
Let’s suppose you are not going to a concert, but you are watching the snaps, dancing in your room, enjoying every minute of it.
- No screenshots
Another big pro of Snapchat is that you cannot save or take screenshots of anyone’s snaps without them knowing. People like to lurk on social media, and when they will try to lurk on Snapchat, you will get to know immediately.
- You get to know who is interested in your life.
Suppose your ex is added on Snapchat, wouldn’t you feel good to show her/him that you are living your best life. You get to know who has opened your snaps or took a screenshot. It will create a bond between you and your viewers. You will know who is taking interest in your daily life.
- Avatars and horoscopes are awesome
It gets so interesting when you get to make your own avatar, an AI version of yourself. You get to choose everything about your avatar, from height to weight, from hair colour to lips and eyes colour. You get stickers of your avatar too, it makes chatting with your friends more exciting. Another fascinating option is that Snapchat tells you about your star sign and horoscope. It also calculates your compatibility chart with your friends.
Cons of Snapchat
- Real time spying
If someone is lurking, he/she will get trouble in real time too. If you are on any other social media app, things can go unnoticed for weeks. But on Snapchat, people who are following you will get to know almost live-updates. They will know this happened in these 24 hours. It can become a safety hazard too. For example, you are on a holiday, posting all these cute snaps, letting all these people know that you are away from home can increase the chances of someone breaking into your empty house.
- No screenshots
It was listed in the pros’ section too, but it is a con too. There are so many times when you will see something and will think, “oh, my best friend/sister/boyfriend needs to see this”. But, unfortunately, you cannot take a screenshot. If you really need to take a screenshot, you will have to borrow someone else’s phone to take pictures. You cannot, otherwise, take a screenshot or share it.
- Long stories
Unless there are some wonderful snaps of holidays or concerts, long snaps and stories get annoying. Like watching a person watering the plants for forever is irritating. But, lucky for you, you can just swipe.
- Harassment can occur
As we said before that, Snapchat deletes a message forever in a set period. This makes Snapchat a nightmare for the parents. A child or teenager may receive unsolicited messages, or he/she can bully someone or can be bullied too. But, Snapchat will delete the pictures, leaving behind an absolute zero evidence of the harassment. Children and teenagers can add anyone in their friends list as Snapchat allows the user to add a strange, and it will become hard to filter out this people.

Final Words:
Like any other social media app, Snapchat has its own pros and cons too. It is the use of these apps that make them good or bad. Parents can use parenting control or can ask their child to set privacy to “friends only” to avoid any stranger spying on them or harassing them. Enjoy the social media and stay safe!!
